Inspiration

  • Our own experiences with mental health and dealing with limited access to resources.

What it does

  • Our website is still a work in progress, but we have included self care tips, a questionnaire to test anxiety levels (but NOT to diagnosis or treat, simply to use with medical professionals), and a helpline. But we have several future iterations where we want to include a search where you can find help near you and reach out to community groups.

How we built it

We built it using VS code as our IDE and used languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript to create our website. We made sure to give credit to sources we used like W3 schools!

Challenges we ran into

We have limited experience in CS as a group of all first-years, so it was tough to get implement of our ideas and we felt that our website is very rudimentary, but could be improved with more time and development.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • The website's questionnaire and self-care flip cards.
  • Really just stepping outside of your comfort zones to learn about coding a website from scratch and the organization principles that are used.

What we learned

  • A LOT about web development, and GitHub and how repositories work.
  • learned HTML, CSS, and JavaScript on the fly
  • building a website from scratch

What's next for College Companion

We want to take it to the next step by including APIs for searching for help near you and finding other students.
