Inspiration
My group and I all spent time deciding on a college, we would never want to replace that process, but we would love to give a helping hand.
What it does
Our project helps select colleges based on certain filters; afterwards it displays an image of the college, some weather information and some additional information from the United States Department of Education College Scoreboard.
How we built it
We split this into three workloads: backend, frontend, and API abstraction. I worked primarily on backend where I would glue the frontend and API abstraction together. I used Flask to form the backend because it is simple and powerful. Ian primarily did the API abstraction. he created functions that would help communicate with the APIs that we used.
Challenges we ran into
Flask was not my first choice for backend framework, FastAPI was my first choice. I was having a lot of trouble getting it workig, so I eventually settled on Flask Because it is almost just as simple and most definitely just as powerful.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
None of had previously worked on a team like this to get code ready within a very short window of time. Us doing this project in the first place was proof that we can, and it gave us plenty of experience and k nowledge.
What we learned
Speaking of knowlege, we learned a lot about web development. I personally am not much of a web developer, but I learned how hard it can be to center a div, I learned how to make valuable abstractions, and most of all, I learned how to work on a team.
What's next for College Collage
The next steps for College Collage would be to pretty up the code, and ensure that there are no bugs left.
