Inspiration
We are inspired by websites such as Library Genesis and others which offer people access to free textbooks. If you've ever used sites like these, you know how easy it can be to be routed to a malicious link or website. We set out to build a modern, easy to use UI that scrapes the internet including sources like Library Genesis to present our user with the best and safest search results for their given query.
What it does
Scours the internet to find the safes and most secure pdf for the book you are looking for. Also we have a list with 200+ discount options in different categories.
Main advantage is that we do the work for you, you don't have to spend hours trying to find a pdf or the book you are looking for. We spend that time and provide you with the best books that match with your search.
Discounts are scattered everywhere, but we provide a place where we have gathered all the scattered info and presented in a neat and easy format
How we built it
We built this project using React JS and Python Flask and a variety of other dependencies used at each component
Challenges we ran into
Time was our biggest factor and caused many constraints in our design as one would expect. As this was all our first hackathon, there was a big learning curve in quickly assembling and working together.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a pretty robust backend which queries the internet and collects the best results, cleans the results collected, attaches images to the results and passes it all to the front end where it is elegantly displayed
What we learned
We learned a lot about web apis and working together on a team.
What's next for College Buddy
Finish the frontend and publish for our own consumption!
