Inspiration
This project was inspired by Aarnav's and Iniyann's older siblings real-world problems. Often, when transporting between college and home, our parents wanted their kids to eat homecooked food, but they didn't want to drive. This problem occurred throughout our communities and caused chaos. Our simple webapp strives to solve this issue of craving for homemade food from far distances.
What it does
This webapp has two options -- delivering food and getting food delivered. Delivering food involves driving food from the community to college students and earn money. Getting food delivered involves dropping off food to a driver and getting your food delivered to your kid in college.
Process
We listed many ideas, but chose to explore this problem further, as there is not a organized solution. While brainstorming, we thoroughly outlined the exact usage and features of our webapp on a document. Challenges
We couldn’t configure a backend in time. We first attempted authentication and database management through Firebase, due to its free cloud storage. We unfortunately found implementation to be harder than expected. We attempted to create authentication through a CSV file inside the front-end, but unable to finish. Time constraints.
Accomplishments
We are most proud of our collaboration and effective communication that allowed us to keep a streamlined project workflow. Effective teamwork won us 3rd place in the Hackathon.
What we learned
We learnt how to use Github to collaborate on projects, such as rebasing branches, handling merge conflicts, and creating pull requests. We learnt the importance of version history through Git. Infact our website got an error five minutes before presentations, however we were able to restore and older version which worked. We familiarized ourselves with ReactJS and CSS. We explored real-world usage of authentication and database management.
What's next for College Bites
QoL features, database implementation, authentication, responsive design, partnership with colleges --Potential for a huge industry.
