Collective Memory

Collective Memory isn’t about recreating 2016, but it is an archival digital canvas that can be contributed to for 10 months of each year.

Users will upload different types of inputs, including text, web, and images, relevant to the year (e.g., food, clothing trends, art/craft/design, pop culture, comedy), contributing to a digital archive of the year.

Think back to Club Penguin, our “My Archive” is a personal “igloo” where users can share and upload parts of their years. For a more private and controlled experience, users can invite “roommates” to help build a room together or visit.

Additionally, there is a community hub for users to upload a single submission to a communal vault with friends or a smaller community, based on the weekly prompt. This space allows users to explore based similar interests while collaborating with others towards a communal vault.

Finally, each archive will annually undergo a moderator review in November and be published on December 31st of each calendar year from 2026 onwards. Allowing users to look back at their “2026 Vault’ and enjoy the cultivation of a cataloged public archive.

How we Built It

Built in Figma and exported to Framer for seamless presentation.

Challenges

We had issues deciding which user pain point to solve, how to address what the user base wants, why, and how to create/substantiate it.

What we're Proud of

We're proud of our idea, and the breadth of our survey. We received 40 responses to multiple-choice and short-form questions, which aided our understanding of the user base and pain points and translated them into opportunities for development.

What's next for Collective Memory

As a team, we will continue to develop this idea, refining the details, increasing customizability and the parameters of post creation. We want to adapt this to mobile interface with easier access to direct photo capture and upload.
