Inspiration

The inspiration of this application is to help boost independent content makers aspiring to make the next club hit, award winning story, and being able to distribute these visual or digital art projects to the masses.

In the case the Filipino-American filmmakers want to get their films out to the masses but there is a significant distribution and funding problem as word of mouth only travels so far and platforms like Kickstarter do not have a toolset geared for filmmakers and media artists. This was later elaborated by Leo CEO and founder of OneMedia and something I noticed when sitting in for an Los Angeles Short Film festival earlier this year with a team only being able to finish part of their project due to cost of 16mm film stock.

What it does

Collective allows users from film enthusiasts, filmmakers, industry professionals to upstart and gamify the funding and support for independent projects. While braking down the barrier and allowing those to be able to collaborate with industry professionals we want to host on the platform and allow some safety net as film crews are still struggling to latch onto projects, future filmmakers have no way outside of their own pocket to distribute and produce their works, and distribution of films gets lost in the social media channels to the larger viewing public.

How we built it

Utilizing Flutter, Vercel, and Firebase to upstart the foundation of the application I tried to ingest data from a user's with IMDB account, data from TMDB, and looked at how I can use coverfly to get scripts into the application.

Challenges we ran into

setting up the environment variables on vercel and making the application as secure as possible to put onto GitHub

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I have a basic structure for the application made and am looking to working with Leo to refine what I have

What we learned

Flutter is nice for web but working with environments for deployment is kind of a headache it may be different if working with NextJS or Vue.

What's next for Collective

Try to refine and work with Leo, OneMedia, FilmAm, and my own personal connections to hard launch the platform to the public.
