What it is?

Here is the project report This project explores the impact of collaboration and competition on computer science educa- tion in a school setting, using The East Manchester Academy (TEMA) as a case study. The study was conducted over a period of three weeks, with each week comprising a single lesson based on GCSE topics, taught to a year 10 class. Three lessons were conducted, where students worked in pairs, groups of 3 to 4 students, and competed against each other in two groups on a coding challenge. The students’ engagement and performance were measured through ob- servation and assessment of their completed projects. The purpose of the experiment was to explore the effectiveness of collaboration and competition in promoting engagement and per- formance in CS education. The project covers the project’s teaching strategies as well as the findings from the assessments and observations made. The study finishes with recommenda- tions for educators on how to incorporate cooperation and competition in their CS teaching practises after discussing the project’s findings in connection to research on collaboration and competitiveness in education.
