Inspiration
CollabFinder was born out of my frustration with the time-consuming process of finding the right creative collaborators for my projects . I often spent hours searching for the perfect collabor which disrupted my creative flow. The Adobe Express Add-ons Hackathon with its focus on empowering creative workflows, provided the perfect opportunity to turn this pain point into a solution for all creators.
What it does
CollabFinder is an Adobe Express add-on that streamlines the collaboration process. It allows users to: Discover ideal creative partners through AI-powered skill matching. Browse detailed profiles with bios, skills, and experience levels. Communicate instantly via in-app chat. Showcase their projects. Invite collaborators to join projects with a single click, all without leaving Express.
By integrating these features directly into Adobe Express, CollabFinder keeps the creative process fluid and efficient.
How we built it
I built CollabFinder using a combination of web technologies and the Adobe Express SDK:
HTML for the structural foundation, including a sidebar for search and filters and a grid for collaborator cards. CSS for styling, creating a sleek blue-white-black theme with responsive layouts and interactive elements like hover effects. JavaScript for functionality, implementing search, filters, chat, and the AI matching simulation. The Adobe Express SDK (mocked in iframe.js) to simulate project invitations and document interactions
Challenges we ran into
Building CollabFinder came with several hurdles:
UI Design: Creating an intuitive interface within the constraints of a sidebar and grid layout required multiple iterations, especially for spacing and hover effects. API integration : I had to mock the invite feature using alerts and console logs, which demanded creative workarounds.
Time Management: Balancing the development of core features like search, chat, and filters with a visually appealing design and feasibility with Adobe exunder the hackathon’s tight deadline was a significant challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I’m proud of several key achievements:
Functional Prototype: CollabFinder works as intended, with search, filters, chat, and invite features fully operational. Polished Design: The UI is clean and engaging, featuring gradient backgrounds and smooth animations like the loading spinner
What we learned
This project taught me valuable lessons:
Express SDK Basics: Since this was my first try at creating Adobe add-ons, I gained hands-on experience with initializing the SDK and simulating document interactions. Rapid Prototyping: I learned to prioritize features and polish under time constraints
What's next for CollabFinder
With the right mentorship from Adobe experts, I plan to:
Submit CollabFinder for official Adobe Add-on approval and release, Enhance AI Matching: Implement AI-driven suggestions, using feedback like ratings, completed collaborations, or user behavior (for example how long they chat, if they finish projects) to improve future matches. potentially reducing search time by 80%. Enhancing the projects tab for creators to showcase their work and prove their skills.
