Inspiration
We wanted to make learning about cryptocurrencies and finance fun, social, and risk-free. Many people are curious about investing but find it intimidating or risky to start. We set out to create a platform where anyone can experience the excitement of owning digital assets while learning—without the fear of losing real money.
What it does
Coinpetition is a gamified finance educational platform. Users join groups with friends, each creating their own cryptocurrency. Everyone starts with the same virtual capital and can track real-time price fluctuations, compete on a leaderboard and answer daily questions about finance. The app provides a safe, engaging environment to learn about crypto markets and trading strategies.
How we built it
We built Coinpetition using Next.js for the frontend, with a modular component structure for scalability. The app features real-time charting, a dynamic leaderboard, and interactive trading—all powered by our backend created with Django.
Challenges we ran into
- Simulating realistic, non-linear crypto price movements to keep the experience engaging.
- Designing a user interface that’s both educational and enjoyable for users with different levels of crypto knowledge.
- Balancing game mechanics to keep competition fair and fun.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Creating a seamless, interactive experience that makes learning about finance, accessible to everyone.
- Building a flexible system where users can create their own coins and compete in private groups.
- Implementing a real-time chart and leaderboard that update dynamically.
- Designing a clean, modern UI that users enjoy.
What we learned
- The importance of user experience in educational apps—fun and clarity go hand in hand.
- The value of rapid prototyping and user feedback in shaping features.
What's next for Coinpetition
- Integrate user authentication.
- Add more advanced trading features and analytics.
- Implement achievements, badges, and more social features.
- Open the platform to public groups and global leader-boards.
Surprises
As we had lots of ideas to implement, we did not want to just build one of them. So for the ones present on the demo, we will show you a little surprise!
