Inspiration

I love both games and crypto investing. But watching prices move can make my mood move with them. I created Coin Garden, inspired by Stardew Valley, to make tracking investments feel like planting seeds and watching a garden grow.

What it does

You record the coin you bought, its purchase price, quantity, and date in a notebook. The app uses CoinGecko prices to show its growth as a plant: at 25% profit it sprouts, at 50% it has four leaves, at 75% it grows a bud, and at 100% it blooms into a sunflower.

When an investment is down, the seed simply stays still instead of dying. You can also try a demo, harvest flowers, and read investing quotes.

How we built it

I used the Devpost Learn Skill Pack with Claude Code. AI asked questions, and I answered as we worked through scope, PRD, spec, and build.

I focused on the idea and testing the experience, while AI helped implement it with Next.js and TypeScript. The app runs on Vercel and saves data directly in the browser.

Challenges we ran into

The hardest parts were making the visuals feel calm and consistent, keeping prices updated, and making the app easy to understand.

I worked with AI through several revisions, simplified the interface, and organized the garden into three clear beds: Demo, Growing, and Harvest.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

My favorite moment was watching a seed grow into a sunflower. The idea in my head became a working app that gave me the relaxing feeling I was hoping for.

What we learned

I learned to explain my ideas more clearly to AI and saw how useful planning before coding can be. I also learned more about Next.js and how trying the app myself helps reveal confusing parts of the experience.

What's next for Coin Garden: Seed to x2

I want to make the app easier to use, improve the investment journal, and add a way to back up the garden. Above all, I want to keep that calm feeling every time someone opens it.
