Inspiration: Cancer affects not only the body but also the mind. Many patients and caregivers struggle with cognitive changes, emotional stress, and a lack of accessible, supportive tools. We wanted to create a solution that empowers users to track, understand, and improve their cognitive and emotional wellbeing throughout their cancer journey.
What it does: Cognitive Cancer Support is a web app that provides: Educational resources about cancer and cognitive health A self-assessment tool for tracking cognitive and functional symptoms A personalized dashboard to visualize progress Brain games to support cognitive function A dynamic cancer awareness quiz Resource finder for support groups and helplines All data is private and stored locally in the browser
How we built it: We built the app using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for maximum accessibility and ease of use. The design focuses on clarity, modern aesthetics, and responsiveness. All features run client-side, ensuring privacy and fast performance.
Challenges we ran into: Designing an interface that is both friendly and accessible for users of all ages Ensuring data privacy without a backend Creating engaging, educational content that is also medically accurate Making the dashboard and interactive features intuitive and visually appealing
Accomplishments that we're proud of: A clean, modern, and user-friendly interface Dynamic quiz and brain game features A privacy-first approach with all data stored locally Comprehensive support for both cognitive and emotional wellbeing
What we learned: The importance of user experience in health tech How to balance educational content with interactivity Techniques for building privacy-focused web apps The value of rapid prototyping and user feedback
