Inspiration

We came up with this idea because we know from many first hand accounts that music alleviates so many day to day problems. Thus we decided to solely focus on using the power of music for cognitive behaviour therapy.

What it does

It takes pictures and uses microsoft's cognitive API to measure a range of emotions. It then uses these emotions to recommend playlists and music on spotify.

How we built it

We used Intellij to build it. We each worked on separate parts of the project, commiting regularly and discussing ideas as we went along.

Challenges we ran into

I feel we spent too much time on the back end of the project. Perfecting that part of the project gave us very little time to work on the front end and thus, we couldn't deliver an application useful for non-technical people.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of being able to tie together 3 different API's to develop something that actually works. We're proud of being able to use modern technology to atleast strive towards the betterment of society.

What we learned

Through our time on the project, we were able to gain a much better understanding of Web APIs as well as the wide range of light weight formats available in terms of data exchange. The flexibility of these made it considerably easier to integrate different languages

What's next for Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

We would like to extend this to mobile applications which would be far more commonly used, in addition to these, we would be able to combine this with locational and seasonal data to help analyse and identify trends much faster than before and hence help people a lot quicker. Being able to quickly identify those who are prone to mental depression. This would be extremely useful due to the already mammoth demand that exists upon the NHS for this sort of therapy especially since young people are the most at risk. Due to the nature and flexibility of technology and the lack of a language barrier for algorithms, this would also be well suited to branch out globally as well.
