I wanted to create a way where users can instantly get the knowledge from Grokipedia into their feed in a very subtle way as they scroll.
What it does
Cognitia is a Chrome Extension that overlays X.com. As the user scrolls their feed, topics/words are subtly highlighted that have Grokipedia pages attached to them. The user can get instant knowledge simply by hovering over the word or they can open details and get a summary + contextual questions to instantly send to Grok to inform their curiosity. Another feature baked in is the ability to fact check any post (that is verifiable) by incorporating Grokipedia into Groks analysis.
How I built it
Maximally leveraged two agentic coding platforms: FactoryAI Droid & Claude Code. The platform leverages the X api for instant tweet/post ID. A python scraper for Grokipedia was integrated and additionally I seeded the database with 1200+ topics. Grok 4.1 fast non-reasoning speed was chosen to produce a summary of the topic at near instant latency. Incorporated a general chat which uses the Grok 4.1 fast reasoning model. Additionally, I added a "Grok, is this true?" button to every post that runs Grok to provide verification of the post against a web search, live/X search, and Grokipedia.
Challenges we ran into
I had technical issues getting the scraper to autoscrape which lead to me manually seeding most of the DB. The main complexity is since Grokipedia doesn't have a sitemap or an API, the method to gather the slugs to add into the database is challenging.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Incorporating a suite of xAI/X offerings into one product
Adding the "Grok, is this true?" feature
Reducing latency of responses/summaries to user-friendly expectations
Including some quality of life features such as: adding the option for the user to choose the highlight style (dotted line, tint, wavy, dashed, etc.), and incorporating a history feature.
What I learned
How to optimize for latency.
How to use the X API
How to seed a database
What's next for Cognitia
Continue scraping and considering the addition of more Grokipedia features including the ability for a user to update an article/topic on the fly via the extension while on X
