Inspiration

I was inspired to create this app because I realized that many students were getting "scammed" of their money to pay for "study services". For example, many of my teachers used to use Quizlet to assign study material for us to use. But because Quizlet forces you to upgrade in order to study the material multiple times, many of my classmates feel forced to pay Quizlet to upgrade their status. I felt this was wrong, and I needed to do something about this. I thought to myself that I could make a study app that was free AND superior to the current apps out there. With this, I felt the drive and motivation to create this study app to help my classmates and myself out!

What it does

It utilizes multiple powerful APIs to provide access to 45+ features to students for free. This includes scanning material into quiz/test/flashcards, online resource fetching, exam prep, and more!

How we built it

I built this project using Gemini as my code assistant and debugger and the rest by myself completely.

Challenges we ran into

A technical difficulty that I faced while programming my app was being able to connect my app with Firebase for data storage and authentication. It was challenging to set up the Google oAuth securely to make sure that users have a way to enter the app. Also, with Firebase limits in data storage I had to find ways to compensate to make sure no data was ever lost. However, after many days of debugging I was able to properly connect to Firebase securely!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A total of 140+ users after only a few days of developing from 15 countries is an accomplishment that is boasted by Cognita Study for sure! I was able to share it to wide audiences through this hackathon. This app was created using a blueprint I had made of the app before, but it was this week where I really built the full UI application and the API connections!

What we learned

I learned the fundamentals in creating a web app as well as life lessons in building a big project. It was definitely not easy during the process of debugging, but I persevered by sticking to my goals and ideas.

What's next for Cognita Study

Cognita will become a mobile app (android then apple) and then it will transition into its next phase of updating UI!
