Inspiration
We were inspired by our individual love for video games and the constant pursuit of knowledge. We wanted to create an outlet for the younger generation to learn in a way that they love. We all understand the hardship of school and how easy it is to burn out. By 'gamifying' education, we can all enjoy our journey and evolve in how to learn.
What it does
Cognisaur is a game that mimics the widely popular mobile video game 'Pokémon GO', but better. Through the app, users will be able to go on 'expeditions' and challenge monsters by completing academic problems. Users are then able to claim monsters and enter a global leaderboard.
How we built it
We focused on UI, front-end, and back-end development. Through Figma, we were able to create an interactive portal that mimicked the app interface. We also used JavaScript and React native to code the actual backend.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into the issue of deploying our front-end website. We were able to use react-native to run the website on a local host, but didn't have time to deploy. We also learned react native during this time and ran into a lot of problems understanding how to use native-react, connecting different pages, how to upload images, how to add animation to the front page and understanding the formatting of React Native.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of just getting a great and fun idea. We are freshmen, and we were very unsure of how to start, as this is also our first hackathon. We love the UI. We are proud of our use of REACT and are just learning mobile app development.
What we learned
We learned about REACT, UI DESIGN, and JavaScript.
What's next for Cognisaur
For Cognisaur, we hope to expand this in the future by creating animated 3d models for all of the character designs as well as creating Cognisaur to work offline for more accessibility. We also hope to expand for more sponsorship to keep Cognisaur as a mostly free app for our consumers. We also hope to eventually expand the map to be fully interactive and multiplayer for everyone around the globe, eventually even incorporating different language aspects.
