When working from home we lack the small social interactions that we have at work. This app allows us to simulate sharing a coffee break together with colleagues.
What it does
First, the user must create an account and log in. Then they can set a time for a coffee break and it will invite all of their colleagues. After accepting the invitation, the user is taken to a video chat room together with everyone else.
How we built it
The app itself is based on Android. The messaging system between the client and the cloud utilizes Google's Firebase Messaging System. The video chat is supported by Jitsi Meet.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
None of us have ever used Firebase before and we are proud that we built a working application that is able to pass data and invitation notifications via Firebase in such a short amount of time.
What's next for CoffeeBreak
The notifications and the video chat already support separate rooms for users. In a next step, we would introduce a way for users to create their own groups of friends or colleagues. Our initial prototype sends the push notification to all its users.
