Inspiration

Most finance apps require a purchase to access the features you need. Coffee & Coin aims to be everything you want out of a finance app for free.

What it does

Coffee & Coin tracks savings directly from the user’s bank account. Users can set a savings goal and create a reward for reaching it. The default reward is a cup of coffee. The reward’s price must be at least 10% of the savings goal in order to properly save up money.

How we built it

We used Android Studio to build this app. Other tools like Firebase for the database and Plaid API to connect bank accounts.

Challenges we ran into

This was our first hackathon, so there was quite a learning curve. We had never used Android Studio before and had trouble connecting Plaid to Firebase. Towards the end, we had GitHub merging issues as well.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The app works on a phone. We're proud of the way the UI looks, and users can successfully sign up and log in. Coffee & Coin has both light and dark mode functional.

What we learned

We learned how to use Android Studio and gained a better understanding of GitHub.

What's next for Coffee & Coin

Given more time, more app security would be something we would like to add. A major feature is the progress bar for visualizing the savings goal. Coffee & Coin could have more game features like achievements.
