Inspiration

Kolam is a Tamil floor-art tradition drawn daily around a grid of dots (pulli). It encodes real mathematics, such as symmetry, loops and patterns, but it is mostly passed down by watching family members, and that knowledge is fading in cities. [Add one or two sentences of your own: where you first saw kolams, who draws them in your life.]

What it does

Pulli is a kolam co-creator. You draw strokes around a dot grid and the canvas mirrors them with 4-fold symmetry as you go. Then:

  • Complete it: suggests how to finish your pattern. [Confirm after building.]
  • Tell me about my kolam: an AI explains the symmetry in your design, names the style, and shares a short note on the tradition behind it.
  • Download: save your kolam as an image.

How we built it

[Fill in once built: front end, canvas library, which model and API for the explanation, hosting.]

Challenges we ran into

[Fill in honestly. Likely candidates: mirroring strokes correctly on the grid, getting reliable explanations from the model, finishing in seven days.]

What works and what doesn't

Works: [list exactly what runs] Doesn't yet: [e.g. checking that a design is a valid single-loop sikku kolam]

What's next

Valid single-loop (sikku) kolam checking, a library of traditional patterns, and a way to share designs with family.
