Inspiration

Codex Frontier was inspired by a simple question: what becomes possible when a developer and AI agents build side by side?

As a full-stack developer from Zambia, I am interested in using artificial intelligence to solve real-world problems and make advanced technology useful beyond traditional technology hubs.

OpenAI Build Week gave me the opportunity to explore this idea by building with Codex and GPT-5.6.

What it does

Codex Frontier is an AI-native project exploring how developers can collaborate with intelligent agents to design, build, and improve useful software.

The final product is being developed around the OpenAI Build Week challenge and will demonstrate practical human-AI collaboration.

How I built it

The project is being developed with Codex as an AI coding collaborator alongside modern full-stack technologies.

The planned technology stack includes:

  • OpenAI API
  • GPT-5.6
  • Codex
  • React
  • Vite
  • JavaScript
  • Python
  • Django
  • REST APIs
  • MySQL

Codex is used throughout the development workflow to support implementation, code reasoning, debugging, and iteration.

Challenges I ran into

One of the main challenges is designing an AI-native product where AI is a meaningful part of the system rather than simply adding a chatbot to an existing application.

Another challenge is balancing ambition with the short Build Week development timeline.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

This project represents my participation in a global AI hackathon as a developer building from Zambia πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡².

I am proud to explore how modern AI tools can empower independent developers to turn ambitious ideas into working products.

What I learned

Through this project, I am learning more about AI-native application architecture, agentic workflows, OpenAI APIs, and effective collaboration between developers and AI coding agents.

What's next for Codex Frontier

The next step is to continue developing, testing, and refining the project based on the OpenAI Build Week challenge requirements.

The goal is simple: build something useful, ambitious, and unexpected.
