Inspiration

We were inspired by Iron Man to make this robotic arm. In my dreams we would make a full suit, but for now we wanted to work on the arm. We also hope that this arm can help people who need an extra arm or an attachment of their normal body to deal with dangerous substances.

What it does

It is a gesture controlled robotic arm. It copies your arm through a list of 10 different signals, they are: peace, thumbs up, pointing, open hand, fist, cool, call, B, pinky, three. It senses your hand with a camera.

How we built it

Before the hackathon we knew we wanted to make a robot in some capacity, so we pre printed using our own CAD, basic components of robot, we could customize later how we would want. Next for the code we used a collaborative IDE to share code and program together, the website and the python for the robot arm.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge we went through is getting the 3d printed pieces. We were able to do this using a friend's printer. Another challenge we ran into is how to connect the 3d printed pieces. We used super glue for this which worked to our standards.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our product is able to detect different hand signals and the clone them onto hardware. We also made a website and an Instagram to showcase and advertise our project. We were able to do all of this in one weekend. Mainly our marketing approach, and story of branding it and doing actual marketing surprised us. We went around and asked people to follow our short 1 weekend journey on instagram, and created a sample business out of a cool technical project we wanted to do.

What we learned

We learned that projects like these are possible through teamwork and dedication. Our team each did their job efficiently with quality. At the beginning of today we would've never thought this would be possible in just 2 short days. Ultimatley we learned team work skills and even learned through conflict, but ultimately pushed through and attained the skills neccesary to scale this project, when we make it a business later.

What's next for CodeSync: Gesture Controlled Robotic Arm

This weekend, we not only created a mere hackathon project, but we created a platform for it to become a tech business. After this weekend we may ustlize our technology in the robot, our marketing website, and preexisting social media presence, to make this a real world product. Possibly extending it into other fields that could use automation, and for consumers to use in their daily like. Overall, our goal is to use the startup we created out of this product to launch and scale into a real business.
