Inspiration

Modern software projects contain many interconnected files, functions, and dependencies. Even a small code change can introduce unexpected issues in other parts of a repository. Developers need more than a simple code explanation—they need to understand the potential consequences of a change before reviewing or merging it.

This inspired us to build CodeScope — Multi-Agent Code Intelligence Platform, an AI-powered platform designed to help developers understand code changes, investigate potential risks, and make more informed review decisions.

What it does

CodeScope brings repository intelligence and AI-assisted code analysis into one platform. Its multi-agent architecture separates analysis into specialized stages:

Coordinator Agent: Coordinates the analysis workflow.

Requirement Analysis: Interprets the requested change.

Repository Retrieval: Retrieves relevant repository context.

Impact Analysis: Investigates potentially affected code.

Code Review: Helps identify potential issues and risks.

PR Generation: Supports the preparation of pull-request-related output.

By dividing the workflow into specialized stages, CodeScope aims to make code analysis more structured, explainable, and useful for developers.

How we built it

CodeScope uses a React frontend and a Node.js/Express backend, supported by a Python FastAPI agent service. MongoDB provides application data storage, while ChromaDB supports vector-based retrieval. GitHub integration connects the platform with repository workflows, and Docker Compose helps run the services together in a local development environment.

The AI integration layer is designed to support compatible model providers. The multi-agent workflow coordinates repository context, analysis, review, and output generation.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was integrating multiple services into a coherent application. Connecting the frontend, backend, Python agent service, database, and GitHub workflows required careful coordination.

We also worked on making repository access more reliable, managing authentication, handling service communication, and ensuring that the application could run consistently through Docker. Integrating AI into a multi-stage workflow introduced additional challenges around context retrieval, provider configuration, and validating outputs.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of bringing together a multi-agent code intelligence workflow with GitHub integration in a single platform. CodeScope combines a React frontend, Node.js/Express backend, Python FastAPI agent service, MongoDB, ChromaDB, and Docker to support repository analysis and AI-assisted code review.

We are especially proud of structuring code analysis into specialized stages, from understanding requirements and retrieving repository context to investigating potential impacts and preparing review-related outputs.

Integrating multiple services, coordinating communication between components, and building a containerized development environment helped us turn our idea into a working full-stack project rather than just a standalone AI interface.

What we learned

Building CodeScope taught us that developing an AI-powered developer tool involves much more than connecting an application to a language model. Reliable results depend on relevant repository context, structured workflows, dependable API integrations, and careful validation.

We gained practical experience with React, Node.js, Express, Python FastAPI, GitHub API integration, database connectivity, vector-based retrieval, authentication, and Docker-based development.

We also learned how challenging it can be to coordinate multiple services and specialized agents while maintaining a consistent user experience. These lessons helped us better understand the engineering considerations involved in building practical AI-assisted software development tools.

What's next for CodeScope — Multi-Agent Code Intelligence Platform

Our next goal is to improve CodeScope's repository understanding and the quality of its change-impact analysis. We want to make it easier for developers to identify potentially affected components, understand why a change may introduce risks, and review code with greater confidence.

Planned improvements include more accurate dependency and impact analysis, clearer explanations supported by repository context, stronger validation of AI-generated review results, and more reliable pull-request workflows.

We also plan to improve deployment, documentation, testing, and the overall developer experience so that CodeScope can become a more dependable tool for understanding code changes across real-world repositories.
