Ask a middle schooler how school was and you get one word: "fine." HabitHive is a habit tracker, daily journal and communication-journal scanner for students — you tick off your habits, rate your mood, write a line about your day, and photograph your school journal page so the homework on it becomes a dated schedule. It runs from a double-click on a locked-down school Chromebook with no wifi and nothing to install, and nothing you write ever leaves that browser. The parts we're proudest of are the ones where we said no: a finished day is worth the same 70 points whether you keep 7 habits or 20, so there's nothing to gain by padding the list, and the scanner deliberately doesn't read your handwriting, because OCR would mean sending a page about one identifiable child to somebody's server.
