Inspiration
As a developer and content creator, I’ve seen how overwhelming the tech world can be: there’s always a new framework, paradigm, or controversy to keep up with. I wanted to build something for curious minds who crave reliable, daily insights into the full spectrum of computer science, from backend architectures to AI breakthroughs, coding culture, and industry trends. The goal: make tech exploration simple, fun, and habit-forming, not just another endless scroll.
What it does
CodeRoutine is a mobile app that delivers one handpicked article every day, spanning the entire coding universe: software engineering, security, devops, programming languages, AI, and more. You can read, listen to AI-narrated podcasts, get smart summaries in multiple languages, and track your progress with streaks and experience points. Your favorite articles are saved in a personal library, and expired content remains accessible. Advanced AI features like smart summaries and podcast narration are available through a premium monthly subscription, managed with RevenueCat.
How we built it
We built CodeRoutine as a cross-platform React Native app with Expo and TypeScript, powered by Firebase and a custom REST API. AI features handle podcast narration and translatable smart summaries. RevenueCat powers our premium subscription system, unlocking the AI-driven enhancements for our users.
Challenges we ran into
Finding the right balance between simplicity and depth was tough. We wanted the app to be lightweight and distraction-free, but also packed with AI features. Curating diverse, high-quality articles across the computer science spectrum is a daily challenge. Integrating RevenueCat for premium subscriptions and ensuring a smooth experience for both free and paid users required careful planning.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of CodeRoutine’s clean interface and solid performance, which make daily tech exploration a pleasure. Early feedback has been positive, and making the app open source was a huge milestone for us.
What we learned
Community feedback has been invaluable for shaping features and content curation. Implementing a seamless subscription experience with RevenueCat taught us a lot about mobile monetization and user retention. Finding the right balance between pricing and features is an ongoing challenge that keeps us focused on delivering real value for both free and premium users.
What's next for CodeRoutine
We plan to expand our learning offer, improve the podcast, and enhance our AI features. Upcoming releases will add cloud sync, more community features for sharing and discussion, and launch on iOS. We’re excited to keep evolving CodeRoutine and help more people explore the coding world, one article at a time.
