Inspiration

For young people in STEM, a lack of education about new ideas and concepts in tech can be a major barrier. According to a 2021 Pew Research study, only 9 percent and 8 percent of STEM jobs are held by Black and Hispanic workers, respectively. Additionally, women only hold 25% of computing jobs and a mere 15% of engineering jobs. We didn't just want to raise awareness about this issue, so we made a fun web app that can teach people more about AI/ML!

What it does

To promote education of people in tech who may not have access to a lot of resources, we created a web game that is fun and interactive while also teaching about Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

How we built it

Using Python, CSS, and HTML, we created our website using Streamlit and Github. We used an open-source boiler plate and used it as our starting point to create our game.

Challenges we ran into

Ensuring that the graphics all appeared correctly on our game was one of the biggest issues we ran into when creating our product. However, with a little bit of work, we were able to create a functional product we are proud of.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Being able to design our website the way we wanted and ensuring that it serves its intended purpose was definitely one of our biggest accomplishments.

What we learned

We learned a lot more about web development and creating games using Python, CSS, and Streamlit. This past weekend has been an amazing learning experience, and we are excited for the future of our game.

What's next for CodeQuest: An AI/ML Adventure!

We hope to add more levels, information, and a variety of AI/ML information that users are being taught. We also would like to incorporate more information about ethical issues in AI/ML and push our users to find solutions to these issues through our game.
