Inspiration
- Looked for something great and simple that could be made in one shot
- Wanted to solve the loneliness of debugging at 3 AM with a companion that actually talks back
- Inspired by rubber duck debugging but with personality and humor
What it does
- Helps developers debug code by giving relevant wisdom through unique pet companions
- Provides hilarious mix of real coding wisdom and fake quotes
- Beautiful cyberpunk UI with glassmorphism and smooth animations
How we built it
- Used Claude and a single well-crafted prompt to generate the entire React application
- Leveraged React + Tailwind CSS for rapid development
- Speed-run approach: prioritized core features first, then added visual polish
- Pure frontend solution - no backend complexity needed
Challenges we ran into
- Being extremely short on time for a hackathon speed-run
- Balancing visual polish with functionality under pressure
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Made the app look great and functional very quickly
- Created 8 distinct pet personalities that feel authentic and engaging
- Built a genuinely stunning UI with glassmorphism, animations, and responsive design
What we learned
- We can ship polished, feature-rich applications under extreme time pressure
- AI-assisted development can accelerate prototyping without sacrificing quality
- Personality and humor are just as important as functionality for user engagement
- Simple concepts executed well beat complex ideas executed poorly
What's next for CodePet
- Couple ideas:
- Integrate real AI models (OpenAI/Anthropic) for actual code explanations
- Add more pets with unique abilities (Debugging Dragon, Refactoring Robot)
- Community-submitted quotes and voting system
- VS Code extension integration
- Gamification with achievements and coding streaks
Built With
- javascript
- react
- tailwind
- typescript
