Inspiration

The rising unemployment rates in South Africa, especially among the youth, inspired us to create BlueLift. We saw the struggles of blue-collar workers in the informal sector and recognized the need for a platform that connects job opportunities with worker skills. Technology's potential to transform job matching and skill training processes motivated us to act.

What it does

We learned about the high-demand skills in local economies, particularly in agriculture and mining. The importance of practical, job-ready training became clear, along with the value of sentiment analysis and unemployment forecasting to understand market trends and public perceptions.

How we built it

Front-end Development: Used Django for a robust web application. Backend Development: Leveraged Python and libraries like TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Scikit-learn. Sentiment Analysis and Forecasting: Implemented models to forecast unemployment rates and identify key skills.

Challenges we ran into

Data Collection was a challenge , getting adequate accurate data is not easy .

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a supportive community for blue-collar workers to share experiences and opportunities. Developed advanced sentiment analysis and unemployment forecasting models. Implemented a mobile-friendly, responsive interface that ensured accessibility for all users.
