Organization
The project was made for SafeSpace as an application that would help sexual violence survivors receive the help they need.
What it does
The application opens up as a game board, but really provides users access to resources that can aid them. Such resources include information about abuse, ways to store information and stories, ways to reach out to professionals, and a way to contact emergency services.
How we built it
We build the project using React Native and Expo. We worked as a team of five on a collective GibHub repository. Teammates coordinated with each other to divide up work. An Android or iOS emulator was used to view the changes to the app in real time. VS Code was used to make changes to files.
Challenges we ran into
Setting up the initial development environment was difficulty. We were working on a team that had varying levels of experience with React Native and Expo. Different machines also resulted in limitations in setting up similar work environments. We had to do research on our respective systems initially to begin working on the project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that were able to recreate a decent portion of the user interface using React Native as opposed to Flutter. This meant we had to build up the application from scratch. Rapidly prototyping the app, ensuring we adhered to good git workflows, and staying committed to our tasks allowed us to build up the application quickly.
What we learned
We gained considerable experience in utilizing React Native to create a mobile application. The experience also helped refined our ability to coordinate and solve problems in a short time. Throughout the experience we came across bugs and roadblocks, but we used our resources and each other to help overcome them.
What's next for CodeFusion Collective - SafeSpace
CodeFusion Collective intends to move forward with coding as a group. This was a very enjoyable and useful experience overall. We look forward to participating in future projects and Hackathons in the future.
