Inspiration

Aquamyan draws inspiration from the resilience of Myanmar’s flood-affected communities. By leveraging technology for early warnings, transparent aid distribution, and community-led recovery, it aims to empower these communities with essential tools to manage crises, fostering long-term resilience and mutual support.

Overview

Aquamyan is a comprehensive flood relief and management system to support Myanmar communities during flood crises. This holistic platform focuses on user-friendliness, real-time data, and effective communication, making it an essential tool for affected communities, donors, and decision-makers alike. Each feature is developed with the end-users in mind, from individuals seeking support to organizations coordinating aid efforts, and provides innovative, practical solutions.

What it does

Aquamyan is a comprehensive flood relief and resource management platform that connects donors with recipients in flood-affected areas of Myanmar. It provides real-time flood alerts, resource allocation tools, critical health information, and an SOS feature for emergencies. The platform also supports community resilience by fostering mutual aid, helping to prevent disease outbreaks, and offering tools for long-term recovery planning.

How we built it

The platform is built in React with Tailwind CSS for an intuitive, responsive UI. Data is managed in Airtable database to simulate a real-time database, allowing the system to be easily scalable for future data integration. Key functionalities include conditional rendering for donor/recipient roles, real-time resource requests, and geolocation-based flood alerts. The flood prediction model integrates weather data and historical flood patterns to deliver accurate, timely alerts.

Challenges we ran into

We’re especially proud of the platform's user-friendly design that prioritizes both accessibility and transparency.

We learned valuable lessons in handling real-time data and refining predictive models, ensuring the platform's scalability. With a user-friendly and transparent design, Aquamyan is positioned as a trusted tool in crisis management and recovery.

What's next for AquaMyan

Next, we plan to expand Aquamyan’s capabilities by integrating more data sources for enhance accurate flood prediction and building a mobile app version for on-the-go accessibility. We also aim to partner with local health organizations to provide verified sanitation tips and resources. Expanding the SOS feature with geolocation will further enhance emergency response, making Aquamyan an indispensable tool for crisis management and recovery.
