Inspiration

I enjoy building things with other people, but coding together online is usually awkward. Most of the time someone shares their screen while others just watch, and real collaboration never really happens.

I wanted a space where people could actually code together at the same time while talking naturally. That idea slowly turned into CodeConnecto.

The goal was simple: real-time coding, conversation, and AI support in the browser without friction.

What it does

CodeConnecto is a collaborative coding space where multiple people can:

  • edit code together in real time
  • talk over video while coding
  • use AI inside the editor to help, explain, or debug
  • see the output instantly with live preview

It is built to feel closer to sitting next to someone and coding together, not just screen sharing.

How I built it

I used a modern web stack with real-time communication.

  • WebSockets handle collaborative code syncing
  • WebRTC powers video chat
  • AI tools are integrated directly into the editor

Most of the work went into keeping everything fast, stable, and simple to use in the browser.

Challenges

A few of the main challenges were:

  • keeping edits in sync when several people type at once
  • running video and collaboration together reliably
  • UI state bugs that only appear with multiple active users
  • debugging real-time behaviour that is hard to reproduce

It took a lot of trial and learning to stabilise everything.

What I learned

I learned a lot about real-time system design, event flow, and collaborative UX.
I also realised that AI works best when it supports the user quietly instead of taking over.

Even small delays or confusing interfaces can break the flow when people are working together.

What’s next

Planned improvements include:

  • private rooms
  • better file handling
  • richer collaboration tools
  • more polish and stability

Final thoughts

CodeConnecto is my attempt to make online coding feel more natural and shared. It is still improving, but the idea remains simple:

building together should feel effortless.
