Inspiration
Whether it's working on projects with large teams or coding with AI agents, we knew how important it was to understand the system beyond the part of the project we were responsible for. However, especially with unfamiliar projects or poorly documented projects, it could significant time and effort to gain a good understanding by relying only on existing means like traditional static analysis tools or asking team members. Drawing from our experience as developers working on personal projects and as part of a team, we wanted to make that process easier and more meaningful.
What it does
Our app creates a visual representation of the project and how each piece works together with the help of AI and other analysis techniques. It allows the user to explore the inner workings and connections of a project at different levels, and use that information to improve on the project.
How we built it
We built our app using React and Typescript, with a Nvidia Nemotron integration through Nvidia Brev. We used the Vite toolchain for the development process.
Challenges we ran into
We had to go through many iterations refining our front end visualization to make it readable and useful, and showing the connections was a major pain point. Another challenging aspect was determining the best way to analyze and group the data. We ran into some issues integrating Nvidia's hosting service into our application.
What's next for CodeViz
We hope to add integrations like IDE extensions to more seamlessly integrate into existing workflows. We also want to add more customizability to best support each project.
