Inspiration
Coming from a poor section in Lynn, MA, we are well aware of the challenges that economic scarcity and lack of opportunities bring. it is especially painful when we see so many talented and aspiring people like ourselves cut short by things out of their control, as such, coming up with Resrugo didn't take much consideration. Resurgo is our way of continuing to give back to our community and spreading positivity and aid when students like ourselves need it the most.
What it does
One of the biggest setbacks we faced during high school was the countless hours we spent looking for opportunities. Our community didn't have much to offer in our interests, as such, we often had to turn to the internet. However, what if there was a way that any student could quickly gain access to thousands of opportunities in the country, or even worldwide, like those who have more resources than them? That's what Resurgo does, it is how the underdogs can reach for and touch the stars! Our main audience would be students looking for opportunities in their interests as well as people who want to spread resources with others. Ideally, these resources would be free, like courses, hackathons, scholarships, etc. While it may seem surprising, there are a lot of companies and groups that frequently spread knowledge for free! Students can filter through the opportunities and save any posts or groups that interest them. Publishers would sign up and promote their content per usual. The two parties would connect without the noise other social media have.
How we built it
We utilized a react native framework to develop the tangible product. We used Figma for the design, flowchart, and logo.
Challenges we ran into
UI and UIX were big challenges. We wanted to make sure that the app didn't feel like other social media. It had to be professional but quite like LinkedIn, it should be more youthful and endearing, however, it couldn't be as loose as Instagram or TikTok. Overall, while the changes between this design and any other end were small, they added up and created the environment we wanted.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting well into development was a fun experience, it made Resurgo feel alive, allowing us to envision its potential impact on so many people. Even though it's not completed, the thought of getting it published is extremely motivating.
What we learned
A lot of our skills were put to the test throughout the development, especially with the time crunch. However, the biggest learning experience probably had to be the UI and UIX.
What's next for Resurgo
We believe development itself is not quite an issue, just a matter of time, more than anything it'd be marketing. Making sure we reach both of our audiences alone sounds like a big challenge that none of us are that well acquainted with. Nevertheless, as we have done many times before, we will rise to the occasion and do our best with open minds.
