Inspiration
Our inspiration was a start-up website called Mathdash which enhances student's ability to enjoy math and have a competitive surrounding pushing people to try their absolute best and enhances education and inclusivity.
What it does
Our platform is a free, user-friendly learning ecosystem designed to make education truly inclusive. We provide self-paced, interactive courses ranging from the Fundamentals all the way to Competitive CS Training, Game Development, and AI/ML Fundamentals, ensuring that learners from all backgrounds—regardless of experience, location, or ability—can access world-class resources. By prioritizing diversity and inclusivity, we believe that education is for everyone, and our platform empowers every student to learn, compete, and excel at their own pace.
How we built it
We developed Code Colosseum, inspired by the educational platform Mathdash. Our process began with a foundational structure generated through Base44, an AI platform we were actively learning to use. Leveraging its visual editor, we refined the layout to create a more user-friendly and aesthetically appealing design. We further enhanced the platform by learning and applying fundamental React concepts to add interactivity and animations and successfully integrated an AI model to provide intelligent support for users.
Challenges we ran into
While developing Code Colosseum, our biggest challenges were both technical and collaborative. First, setting up our environment—downloading code from GitHub and running it in VS Code—taught us the importance of version control and consistency. Second, we had to quickly learn new tools like React, JSX, and JSON to bring the platform to life. Finally, integrating a basic AI helper pushed us to explore how AI can enhance learning while staying user-friendly. At the end, the AI wasn't as precise as we thought it would be, so we removed it, but this led us to explore new ideas and concepts which we gave us more experience using ai tools. These challenges not only tested our problem-solving but also strengthened our teamwork, making Code Colosseum a stronger platform in the end
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully built an interactive learning platform that helps users to go from absolute beginners to brilliant problem-solvers. Our platform not only teaches core concepts step by step but also provides real-world opportunities to apply those skills in competitive arenas. Though it is still a work in progress, we aim to provide fully functional guided learning pathways with practice challenges, real-time leaderboards, and peer-led competitions, we’ve created a space where learning is done through action.
What we learned
During the development of Code Colosseum, our team gained hands-on experience with new tools such as Base44 and frameworks like React, which enhanced both the functionality and aesthetics of our platform. We also engaged in extensive brainstorming to design innovative features aimed at making education more inclusive, accessible, and impactful.
What's next for Code Colosseum
We are looking forward to enhancing the platform's performance while adding additional features such as importing a better AI model for hints and adding on to the course material and different questions and pathways. We also want to add student led competitions that can be effective as friends teach friends which can lead to more material being learned in a fun way too.
Also in additional features, we added a video of the part of our platform which we are most proud of, the real time simulated Hall of Gladiators/ Leaderboard.
