SwachhLens: Smarter Waste Management
What Inspired Us
We were inspired by the everyday problem of overflowing garbage, delayed collection, and limited coordination between citizens and municipal teams. We wanted to build a solution that could turn simple citizen reports into actionable sanitation tasks.
What We Built
SwachhLens is an AI-powered waste-reporting platform where citizens can upload images and location details of waste. Using Groq AI, the system analyzes the report by identifying waste type, estimating severity and volume, and detecting possible duplicate reports.
Municipal authorities can use the dashboard to review complaints, assign suitable crews and vehicles, track cleanup progress, manage notifications, and analyze sanitation trends.
How We Built It
We developed the platform using:
- React-based Progressive Web Apps
- FastAPI backend
- PostgreSQL/Supabase database
- JWT authentication and role-based access
- Groq AI for waste analysis
- Municipal dashboard and report lifecycle management
What We Learned
We learned how to integrate AI into a complete full-stack application, design role-based workflows, manage report states, and validate features through manual end-to-end testing.
Challenges We Faced
Our major challenges included handling duplicate submissions, ensuring reliable image analysis, connecting frontend and backend workflows, improving one-click submission behavior, and maintaining accurate report timestamps and profile statistics.
