Inspiration

The COVID-19 pandemic has faced the world with unprecedented challenges. Never before has an invisible enemy closed borders, sent billions of people home from work and changed the way we lead our daily lives. One of the biggest challenges that are yet to follow is returning to our normal way of living and, especially, working. But how to keep work normal while at the same time stay safe? What each of us would most like to do, is to form a cocoon around our bodies, which would keep the invisible enemy in the form of a virus out of our safety zone and keep us protected. And that is exactly what we did - CocoonLight offers workers their unique non intrusive protection in the form of light marcations for keeping social distance, while at the same time ensuring companies minimization of infection, productivity loss due to sick leave absence and flexible workflow organization.

The problem our project solves

Keeping social distancing feasible in all workspaces. The current pandemic has not only changed our way of living and working in our immediate response to the crisis, but will profoundly change our lives in the uncertain future that follows. Companies will have to return to work and at the same time ensure the safety of its workers by strictly following safety compliance regulations. Moreover, making sure that workers remain healthy and that a potential infection doesn’t spread will be of the utmost importance for any company that wants to keep fluctuations in workforce availability and consequently cost of sick leave as low as possible. Guidance on safety has been clear - keep social distancing, ensure high sanitary standards and equip workers with personal protection equipment. But how to ensure social distancing in factories, warehouses and other crowded workspaces, where workflow organization is complicated as it is?

The solution we bring to the table

Light safety guidance to ensure social distancing. CocoonLight offers a light marcation to workers, with predetermined distance for each of its colours. Red means the other worker stands 1m away, orange 1.5m and green 2m. It therefore serves as a visible reminder to workers to keep the social (physical) distance in mind - even if they don’t, cocoon light does it for them.

An overseeing eye - creating safety zones in crowded areas. Workspaces such as factories and warehouses, where a number of workers are quickly performing their tasks, can sometimes become crowded in certain areas. CocoonLight offers management an overseeing eye of the entire workspace. Special cameras are monitoring the movement of workers and, based on the evaluated data, exposing problematic areas, which need to be addressed. Management can easily rearrange the routes of its personnel, thus creating a more safety compliant environment for its workers. Lights tagging is flexible and offers quick readjustment, with no physical marcations that would later need to be rearranged.

Follow the light - making the worker feel safe and protected. Each worker has its own job to finish and in workspaces such as factories and warehouses they have to finish it quickly and thoroughly. CocoonLight enables workers to focus on their job and not worry about keeping social distance while performing their tasks. They simply follow the light, which ensures the worker and all co-workers remain protected and feel safe in their workspace.

The solution’s impact to the crisis

Minimizing the risk of infection and potential productivity loss. All companies will have to ensure the safety of its workers, not just for the company as such, but for the environment as a whole - for the worker to feel protected at workspace, for the company to minimize the risk of productivity loss and cost of sick leave and for the national health system to minimize the risk of infections. CocoonLight is a sustainable solution with one-time investment that offers a non intrusive method of ensuring social distancing in packed workspaces, flexible workflow organization with quick adaptability and consequently minimizing the risk of infections, production downturn and profit loss.
