Inspiration

Once the vaccine is out (hopefully soon!), and work from home ends, how will employers know if their workspaces are safe for employees? Our solution is Co-Vaxx: A vaccination monitoring and surveillance web-application.

What it does

Co-Vaxx will focus on three main services:

  • Interactive visual tool that allows employers to have building-level data on the vaccination status of their employees for their office compound.

  • Mobile application for employees to maintain digital records of vaccination.

  • Customized Herd-Immunity threshold for organizations.

How I built it

The mobile application was built using proto.io. The web application was built using HTML/CSS and we use Tableau to create our dashboard and embed the Tableau Public Server link into the webpage. The application was hosted using Google Cloud Platform and we used domain.com to get our domain. Check it out at https://howsafeismy.space/

Challenges I ran into

This was our first jump into the world of website-deployment, and we had a hard time trying to find out how to host our HTML/CSS files! Finally, with substantial help from the organizers and some youtube videos we figured out how to do it using GCP and link the IP to our domain!

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

To be honest, we feel that our version 1.0, although very rudimentary, provides the fundamental vision to our idea. The dashboard is interactive, simple as well as intuitive. We feel really proud to have the web application up and running for everyone!

What I learned

Our main learning in this project was two-fold, theoretical, and technical. From a theoretical point of view, we learned a lot about the science of herd-immunity and how reliable thresholds can be estimated using demographic data of a population. On the technical side, we learned a lot about web hosting as well as embedding tableau into web-pages!

What's next for Co-Vaxx: Vaccination Monitoring and Surveillance System

Once this optimized solution runs efficiently in these workplaces we would be interested in scaling this up to achieve herd immunity in the community as a whole and further provide more details on the dashboard as required by our client organizations.
