Inspiration
We drew a lot of inspiration from Celeste while also being inspired by the Fromsoftware Multiplayer Experience
What it does
The game keeps the player entertained while maintaining a simple to use InputSystem while also allowing the user to see what other players are up to in real time.
How we built it
The mountain was initially procedurally generated, after which we refined it to make the experience more enjoyable
Challenges we ran into
Initially we wanted to make a browser game that we could play in a chat box while the user was waiting for a response. Furthermore we wanted to procedurally generate a new mountain each day. However, engineering a procedurally generated platforming experience that is both fun and not repetitive proved to be challenging. We also found it hard to maintain a small enough scale for a browser.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The Unity Sprite Animator was a mountain we had to scale, Procedural Generation was a great hill to climb. We were ate peak performance while optimizing our player controller. Last but not least, the aesthetics of the game including art and music was a great experience too!
What we learned
We all learned new skills during the hackathon. They are linked with our proudest accomplishments. We all improved in skills we were already good at including but not limited to animation, art, music, level design, player controllers, control schemes, and random generation.
What's next for Co-op Climbers
We all enjoyed our time working on this project, there may just be another mountain to climb.
