Inspiration

I often find myself feeling extremely stressed and anxious when I'm in school. Whether it be the homework, the social life, or dealing with teachers, school life is overwhelming. I did some research about teen anxiety and found that around 32% of adolescents (people between the ages of 13-18) deal with anxiety. That is when I thought of the idea of a tool that can help so many students like me with their anxiety issues.

What it does

ClutterDump utilizes thought boxes, destressing games, affirmations, and carefully color-coordinated moods to relieve anxiety and stress in students. All of the techniques and activities in ClutterDump are proven methods for lowering anxiety.

How we built it

I built ClutterDump using a mixture of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. All 3 languages were crucial in the making of the code. HTML was used in the overall structure of the code, like making the header, buttons, etc. CSS helped with designing the page with the color scheme (through hexadecimal color code) and layout. JavaScript helped make the page interactable with the user, such as the button clicks.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges I ran into were picking up on CSS and HTML. I have a pretty solid foundation in Python and C++; however, for the project, I knew that HTML was the way to go. I had to do a lot of research and watch some tutorials to pick up the languages. Fortunately, this wasn't very difficult as I already know coding basics.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Some accomplishments I'm proud of are contributing to solving a real-world issue that impacts so many students globally. Even small games or breaks to stop and declutter thoughts can make a difference as I have experienced it firsthand.

What we learned

I have learned more about how anxiety affects students, but also more about how to fix it. I also learned how to apply coding in a helpful way, different than how I have done before.

What's next for ClutterDump

I hope ClutterDump expands into a bigger app and more teens can access it. I also hope that it can connect to therapists so that people can get help virtually.
