Inspiration

The project shifts inspiration from vintage 2D animation to a more surreal, retro-futuristic vision. Classic cartoon aesthetics are combined with dystopian themes, creating a contrast between the innocence of an animated farm animal and the brutality of modern conflict.

What it does

The film follows a chicken wearing a military-style visor, watching a distant war unfold through its high-tech lenses. What begins as a simple observation becomes a metaphor for desensitization, control, and the distortion of truth in times of conflict. The chicken becomes both witness and victim — trapped between fear, curiosity, and the overwhelming chaos reflected in the visor.

How we built it

Hailuo was used to generate and animate the entire video The pipeline focused on blending cartoon simplicity with tense, dystopian imagery.

Challenges we ran into

Maintaining stylistic consistency across the scenes and preserving the identity of the chicken — especially the visor reflections — required careful work to avoid visual drift.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Winner at the NYC GenArt Hackathon — Hailuo, Oink (Best Narrative)

What we learned

The project reveals a dark, dystopian perspective on war, seen through the eyes of a creature who should never have to understand such violence. It becomes an allegory about how technology mediates the horrors we witness, distancing us from reality even as we stare directly at it.
