Inspiration
Clues in Common brings the fun of sharing clues and theories into Twitch, giving streamers and their communities a mystery to explore together.
What it does
Clues in Common is a Twitch Extension for story-driven mysteries. Creators explore scenes and solve puzzles solo or in shared rooms of two to four creators. Viewers can follow the active adventure, explore unlocked content, and discuss theories in chat. The project is designed to grow with more original stories.
How we built it
OpenAI Codex helped me plan and build the React and TypeScript app, Twitch integration, and Firebase backend for verified creator access and saved adventures. I also used Codex to debug problems throughout development. All of the project’s artwork—including characters, scenes, and props—was generated with Codex’s built-in image generation tool.
Challenges we ran into
Twitch’s embedded test player couldn’t reliably load the local app because browsers restrict access from Twitch’s frame to localhost. Codex helped identify the local-network restriction and work through a solution using a temporary HTTPS Cloudflare Quick Tunnel and Twitch Local Test configuration. That got the extension loading in Twitch’s test environment.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built the core mystery-game experience, Twitch creator and viewer flows, saved progress, shared creator rooms, and a consistent set of original generated artwork.
What we learned
We learned how much a Twitch Extension depends on getting identity, permissions, and synchronization right, and how to use Codex to debug issues and iterate across both code and visual assets.
What's next for Clues in Common
We plan to expand the collection of stories, keep polishing the experience, and continue testing it with streamers and their communities.
