Inspiration
Clue Hunter began with a simple idea: create a hidden object game where every item matters. We were inspired by narrative-driven mysteries and wanted to build a world where clues aren’t just arbitrary objects scattered around a scene, but meaningful pieces of a story. Each item ties into the investigation, pushing the player toward a deeper understanding of the crime and the people involved.
How we built it
We built Clue Hunter using vibe-based coding programs that allowed us to prototype quickly, experiment freely, and refine scenes until they felt atmospheric and story-driven. That flexibility helped us carve out a hybrid experience that blends hidden object gameplay with immersive crime fiction.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was designing levels that grow in difficulty while still making logical, narrative sense. Every scene had to feel compelling, cohesive, and realistic, and ensuring that each item supported the investigation required constant iteration.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Balancing gameplay, storytelling, and pacing pushed us creatively, but ultimately shaped the game into what we envisioned from the start: a grounded mystery experience where every clue has weight and every discovery matters.
What we learned
Throughout development, we learned just how much players value feeling embedded in an active investigation. They want to step into each room with purpose, uncovering objects that enrich the narrative and gradually reveal a fuller picture of what happened. We also discovered that players respond strongly to cases that feel contemporary: stories that reflect the modern world and capture elements of the current zeitgeist.
