Inspiration

Clubs and societies are one of the most exciting parts about starting universities. Finding a group of like-minded individuals who you can de-stress with after class is a must for the struggles of a student. However, we realised that finding club information was a lot more difficult than it seems. The current website for USYD lacks searchability and merely involves looking at a wall of text to find something you may find interesting. We wanted to change that and committed to creating clubhub (all lowercase).

What it does

The aim of clubhub is to connect clubs to students and students to club. For students: we wanted to provide an easily searchable and extensive list of all the clubs that currently exist at university. It allows them to search by name and an expansive list of tags. Perhaps you want to look for a club tagged with networking, or want to avoid clubs with politics. The possibilities are endless.

For clubs: upon discussion with some executives, we have realised that clubs would greatly benefit from a centralised system for club admin and event management. Therefore, clubhub also allows executives to login, change club information, add events and even view member list and sign ins. In the future, adding events would automatically create and sync with various social media platforms and external APIs.

How we built it

With love. We used Figma to prototype and React JS to create the final product.

Challenges we ran into

This was the first time we had programmed React (or in fact any decent program that was not command-line).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we created a viable product after the very limited 24 hours.

What we learned

We have solidified our ability to work in a team and commit to a shared git repository.

What's next for clubhub

As said before, the possibilities are endless. Collaboration with student unions would allow clubhub to explode in popularity and contain information that would aid every new student. We hope that our app can help create a more inviting and friendly university environment for all.
