Inspiration
Arriving at a new college is a new experience for many students, and the amount of information presented by the school is often overwhelming. Especially at Carnegie Mellon, which has over 300 student organizations, finding the right club to fit in is sometimes difficult. As such, we've decided to create an app to help simplify this process, so that each user can find an organization to be a part of.
What it does
Using heuristics and techniques from NLP (namely TFIDF algorithm), we match students with clubs that fits their interest.
How we built it
Using Android Studio, we built a mobile Android app from scratch.
Challenges we ran into
This is our team's first Android app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Making an app in less than 24-hours (including an 6-hour sleep) with no prior experience.
What we learned
Version control is important, and communication is key for success and efficiency.
What's next for Club Matcher
More advanced ML models like recommender system, graphical convolutional neural networks or few-shot learning to make our algorithm "smarter"
