Inspiration

In Bangladesh, weather information is crucial for daily activities, from farming to commuting. However, most weather apps are not in Bengali, making it difficult for many to understand. Our app aims to bridge this gap by providing weather forecasts in Bengali, ensuring accessibility and ease of use for everyone.

What it does

Localized Forecasts: Provides accurate weather predictions for various locations in Bangladesh, in Bengali.

Real-Time Updates: Offers up-to-the-minute weather information.

Five-Day Forecasts: Helps users plan their week with detailed Five-day weather predictions. Comprehensive Weather Data: Includes temperature, rain, humidity, wind speed, and more.

How I built it

Android Studio: Developed the app using Java and Android Studio.

OpenWeatherMap API: Integrated OpenWeatherMap API to fetch real-time weather data.

Libretranslate API: Used Libretranslate API for translating the entered city names as input into Bengali.

UI/UX Design: Focused on creating a clean and intuitive interface to enhance user experience.

Challenges we ran into

API Integration: Handling API responses and ensuring accurate translations was challenging.

Localization: Ensuring all elements of the app, including dynamic weather data, were accurately translated into Bengali.

User Interface: Designing an intuitive and accessible interface for a diverse user base.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully developed a fully functional weather forecast app that delivers accurate weather information in Bengali. Created a user-friendly interface that caters to a wide range of users, making weather information accessible to everyone. Overcame technical challenges related to API integration and data localization.

What we learned

Enhanced my skills in Android development and API integration. Gained experience in handling localization for mobile applications. Improved our understanding of user experience design for a diverse user base.

What's next for CloudCast

Expand Coverage: Increase the number of cities and regions covered within Bangladesh.

Advanced Features: Add features such as severe weather alerts, weather news, and climate trends.

User Feedback: Gather user feedback to continuously improve the app and add features that users want.

Cross-Platform Availability: Develop versions of the app for iOS and web platforms.
