Inspiration
My Inspiration was old warehouse/arches rave venues from my time as a DJ in the UK and Europe. I wanted to create something with that vibe, which is not something I had managed to find in the metaverse. I wanted to make the best and most realistic metaverse nightclub, and I believe that I have done this.
What it does
Cloud 9 has two dancefloors playing cutting edge dance music, and they're designed to be as close to the "real" underground club experience as possible. We also have an art gallery featuring original works by a Scottish artist, a sauna, a comedy/theatre space, a desert chill out area and a pinball machine. Oh, and a toilet (with working sink). It's designed to be a place for adults to hang out and have a fun time, and everyone is welcome.
Furthermore, I've added a vast system of "mouse holes" in the club that take miniaturized players around the rooms from a totally different viewpoint, culminating in a tiny rave inside a cardboard box. Everyone seems to enjoy that a lot. There is also a system of "Quantum lifts" that can be used by the miniature clubbers, so that they can navigate the space very quickly, should they wish.
How we built it
I built and textured everything myself using blender and the horizon worlds desktop editor tools. I wanted to have something that no-one else had, so I stayed away from using the mainstays that are found in most other venues. I'm just one person, not a team.
I've also added instructions and information in multiple languages (English, French and Spanish) as I think this is important to not alienate foreign visitors.
Challenges we ran into
It is my first world, so I pretty much ran into every challenge possible as I had to learn everything from scratch. Despite this, most of our visitors have declared it to be the best world that they've ever visited in terms of being a great nightclub and the overall design and aesthetic.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm happy to have the most visually and aurally impressive place in the metaverse. I've literally seen nothing else like it. I'm proud when people say "I did not even think something like this would be possible in Horizons, I've seen nothing like it!".
What we learned
A lot. From a basic space to something complicated and designed to worth WITH rather than AGAINST the system. I've invented my own way of "Stacking" areas so that the system is not forced to render many things which cannot be seen. This in itself has improved performance massively and people have commented on how visually interesting YET smooth the club is.
What's next for Cloud 9 Ultraclub
I hope to bring more eyes and bodies in there, so that the word spreads. The most important thing is that it's a space for good people to meet, talk, dance and have fun. I will continue to innovate and think outside the box, to provide our customers with an original and fun experience that's truly worthy of occupying their time.
