Inspiration

COVID-19 pandemic has started from 1st of December 2019 and this virus is spreading till date.COVID-19 is one of the most deadly and dangerous virus recorded in the history. Due to this virus the whole world is going through difficult times. Human health, economy, socio-political, education aspects are all in danger worldwide resulting into great depression. Many governments have declared lockdown for several months. This is a good solution but this can’t be a permanent one.

What it does

his project mainly focuses on detection of the symptoms and prevention of this virus. Recently many types of mask have been discovered. Some masks like surgical masks, N-95 mask, Full face shield mask, etc. All such masks are used of prevent the virus from entering the human body but these masks lack in smartness and technology. With the help of electronic and telecommunication this project can measure the temperature with use of mask and it also notifies the user to follow social distancing. With the help of telecommunication the project can help the COVID-19 centres to find the person with symptoms easily. This project assures that whenever the person is using the project, the person is wearing a mask. This project can be easily detached from the clothing and mask and hence it is user friendly. As it is recorded that many patients who have been affected by COVID-19 are discharged but still after few days they show symptoms of this virus. This can prove dangerous for their families. Hence this project implemented on such discharged patients and also on people who are advised to quarantine themselves.

How I built it

This project focuses mainly on prevention and detection of COVID-19.This project ensures that the user is wearing mask whenever the user is using this project. Roller Switch is used for this functioning. When the lever of the roller switch gets pulled down it activates the push button due the mask’s ear strings when the person will wear the mask. Whenever the person will wear the mask the lever will get activated and the circuit will be closed Hence the buzzer will stop alarming. When this circuit is open then the connection breaks and hence the buzzer beeps and alarms the person to wear the mask. The main base of this project is Arduino Uno. Arduino UNO is easy-to-use hardware and software. Arduino can read inputs both analog and digital. The use of arduino Uno reduces complicated connection and reading of inputs can also be done on a single interface. The mask includes of temperature sensor TMP102.TMP102 can measure EBT (Exhaled Breath Temperature). This sensor can measure the temperature of human body through the exhaled air. This sensor is digital temperature sensor and works on the supply of 1.4V to 3.6V. TMP102 has a good accuracy of ±0.5°C. Connections of TMP102 are very easy. It has 6 pins GND, Vcc, SDA, SCA, ALT, ADD0. In this project only 5 pins are used for connections. Vcc and GND are connected to their respective power-supply pins. SCL pin is connected to analog pin 4 and SDA pin connected to analog pin 5. This sensor also has an ALERT which notifies when the temperature exceeds the range. This sensor is placed in the mask. It will be placed between the both mask pads. As there is continuous exhalation of air from a human’s nose and mouth, the sensor will continuously measure and monitor the temperature. If the temperature increases above the range then the GSM which is attached to the system activates. And then the GSM will notify the nearest COVID CARE CENTRE in the area. The centres will get the location of the person and it will be very easy to track the person. The tracking of the person will start if and only if the temperature rises above the range. GSM module is also connected to Arduino UNO. Connection of GSM modem with arduino is very simple RX Line of Arduino is Connected to TX Line of GSM Modem and vice versa TX of arduino to Rx of GSM modem. GSM needs 12V 2Amp supply. An array of 4 ultrasonic sensors isattached to the clothing which is worn by the user. These ultra-sonic sensors will be placed in a box attached to belt. These sensors are placed on the belt with an angle of 90degrees with each other. This belt will be confortable to any user. Ultra sonic sensors will help to maintain social distancing. The range of 0m-2m is set in the sensors. Whenever a person is within the radius of 2m of the user and vice-aversa the sensor will notify the user with an alert sound. Hence these sensors will notify the user when social distance is not maintained and hence spreading of the virus is prevented. The Arduino Uno is pre-programmed and controls all the sensors as per the program.

Challenges I ran into

As already explained, data analysis showed that there are no ¦xed symptoms observed in the covid affected patients. Thus it was the major challenge to accommodate a wide and versatile crowd while designing the mask. Social distancing is one of the most important aspects in prevention of spread of the virus. And this project ensures that the user is maintaining social distancing. Already available masks prevent the virus from entering the human body but these masks lack in smartness and technology. Due to these aspects I felt the need of inventing this project

Project got selected in national conference. The research paper on the project got published in an international journal. Got shortlisted in AICTE Chatraa Vishwakarma Awards 2020
