Inspiration

Clothes Central was inspired by the growing number of talented creators making avatar clothing stores across Horizon Worlds. Finding these stores can be a challenge, especially for mobile users who want quick, seamless access to shop and explore. I wanted to create a central hub — a true virtual mall — that brings 160+ stores into one easy-to-navigate space, so players can discover, support, and shop from creators without endless searching.

What it does

Clothes Central is a fully interactive mall hub where players can:

  • Browse 160+ creator storefronts quickly, divided into 10 sections for easy navigation.
  • Use the updated Mall Directory to teleport directly to their favorite areas.
  • Hang out in the Chill Zone Food Court for selfies, socializing, and fun mini-games.
  • Compete in the Mall Cleanup Madness event, a Trash-o-Meter leaderboard game where players clean up the mall for prizes and bragging rights.

It’s built to work smoothly on both VR and mobile, so anyone can enjoy the mall vibes, shop, and play — no matter their device.

How we built it

I designed Clothes Central using Horizon Worlds’ creation tools, carefully optimizing layout and performance for mobile users.

  • The mall layout was divided into smaller, optimized zones for faster loading.
  • The directory system allows for quick teleportation, avoiding heavy navigation lag.
  • The Chill Zone and Trash-o-Meter mini-game were added to keep players engaged and coming back, boosting traffic for all the stores featured in the mall.

Challenges we ran into

  • Balancing performance: Ensuring the numerous stores could exist in one hub without causing lag, especially on mobile.
  • Keeping navigation simple: Making it intuitive for new players while still fun and immersive.
  • Adding interactivity without overwhelming the space, so it felt like a mall — not just a directory.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully optimized a massive store hub to be accessible for mobile users.
  • Created engaging features (Chill Zone, Trash-o-Meter) to encourage repeat visits.
  • Built a space that supports other creators’ businesses while growing a fun community.

What we learned

  • How to balance creativity with technical limits in Horizon Worlds.
  • Techniques for mobile optimization (lighter scripts, cleaner navigation).
  • How to drive traffic and engagement for other creators by combining shopping, social, and interactive elements.

What's next for Clothes Central

  • Continuing to expand the mall with new stores and updated features.
  • Adding more interactive games and selfie stations to keep the experience fresh.
  • Exploring seasonal events and promotions (holiday themes, competitions) to drive traffic and help creators
