Inspiration
Closr was inspired by the common struggle couples face when trying to decide what to do together and how to maintain meaningful emotional connection. We noticed that decision fatigue and surface-level interactions often get in the way of quality time, even in strong relationships. Closr aims to remove that friction and help couples feel more intentional and connected.
What it does
Closr curates personalized date ideas based on both partners’ preferences. Each partner swipes left or right, and when both swipe right, it’s a match—making decisions mutual and effortless. The app also generates deep, thoughtful conversation prompts using AI to help couples spark meaningful discussions.
How we built it
Closr was built using Flutter for a cross-platform mobile experience and Firebase for authentication, real-time syncing, and data storage. We integrated Gemini Generative AI to generate personalized date ideas and conversation prompts tailored to each couple’s interests.
Challenges we ran into
Synchronizing swipes and matches in real time between two users was a major challenge. We also had to carefully design AI prompts to avoid generic responses while maintaining personalization and privacy.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of building a polished, end-to-end experience within a hackathon timeframe, successfully integrating generative AI, and creating a feature that blends emotional connection with practical planning.
What we learned
We learned how to combine real-time systems with AI-driven personalization, and how thoughtful UX design can turn simple interactions into meaningful experiences.
What's next for Closr
Next, we plan to add smarter preference learning, shared calendars, post-date reflections, and analytics to help couples understand and grow their connection over time.
