Inspiration
The idea for Clos8 was born from a simple observation — most of us have clothes we no longer wear, while millions struggle to afford basic clothing. We wanted to create a bridge between these two realities — enabling people to donate easily, track their impact, and feel good about helping others. Clos8 aligns with UN SDG 1: No Poverty, aiming to reduce clothing inequality through technology.
What it does
Clos8 is a mobile application that makes clothing donation simple, transparent, and impactful.
It connects donors who want to give away unused clothes with verified NGOs that distribute them to people in need.
How we built it
We used a combination of modern tools and frameworks:
Frontend: Flutter (for cross-platform mobile experience)
Backend: Firebase (authentication, real-time database, and cloud storage)
UI Design: Figma (to visualise user journey and app screens)
Analytics: Simple dashboards to track donation count and impact statistics
Each module — onboarding, donation tracking, NGO listing, and profile stats — was built step by step, focusing on smooth user interaction and clean design.
Challenges we ran into
Every innovation has its hurdles. Ours were:
Ensuring secure authentication for multiple login options.
Building a transparent donation system with verified NGOs.
Designing a real-time stat tracker that updates closet space and beneficiaries accurately.
Time management between UI design, backend setup, and testing during the hackathon phase.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Aligned our project with UN SDG 1 – No Poverty, creating real social value beyond technology.
Developed a transparent impact tracking system, showing how many people each donation helped.
Transformed a simple idea into a functional platform that encourages sustainable habits and community engagement.
Integrated multi-login authentication and live donation stats, improving accessibility and usability.
Inspired awareness about clothing waste and how small contributions can create meaningful change.
What we learned
We realized how technology can drive social impact, contributing directly to SDG 1: No Poverty by connecting donors to NGOs effectively.
We gained hands-on experience with Firebase, authentication systems, and data visualization, improving both our technical and problem-solving skills.
Most importantly, we learned that small ideas can create big changes when backed by purpose and teamwork.
What's next for CLOS8
Expand NGO Partnerships: Onboard more verified NGOs and local charities to reach a wider network of beneficiaries.
Introduce Pickup & Delivery Integration: Collaborate with logistics partners to make donation pickup effortless for users.
Add AI-based Clothing Suggestions: Use AI to recommend which clothes users can donate based on usage or wardrobe analysis.
Launch Awareness Campaigns: Partner with schools, colleges, and influencers to promote sustainable fashion and social giving.
Reward & Recognition System: Introduce badges, impact points, or certificates for active donors to encourage continued participation.
Scale to Web Platform: Expand from a mobile app to a web-based interface for better accessibility and outreach.
We are also looking to create a volunteering opportunity for people who are willing to help us.
