Inspiration

We thought it would be fun to try and learn about gear ratios and working with weight driven mechanisms

What it does

What it's supposed to do is use a weighted pendulum to step a 60:1 gearbox and step a second hand to tell the time, albeit only in a minute

How we built it

We laser cut some gears out of cardboard using drawing files made in solidworks, then used some rough dimensions to make a housing around our gear assembly.

Challenges we ran into

It turns out that making gears work requires a truly inhuman level of precision and accuracy. We could not accomplish that despite our best efforts.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

So our product may not be perfect but to be honest going from knowing nothing about how clocks work to this is better than expected.

What we learned

Making intricate mechanisms takes a lot of time and planning, doing things spur of the moment doesn't really work

What's next for Clockboard

After improving the materials and machining capabilities of our team, we will create the next Rolex
