What it does

Clippy driver assistant pops up in the bottom right of the screen whenever you make a mistake, such as forgetting to turn on turn signals, or even hitting pedestrians! It also warns users about passing the speed limit.

Clippy driver assistant is built to help young driver how to learn safety regulations and passive driving methods in a virtual environment.

Clippy driver assistant also help young drivers to familiarize with the feelings of road rage and how to handle the situation.

How to use

When in the simulation, use WASD to move the vehicle and the arrow keys to turn on turn signals.

How we built it

We used Unity.

Challenges we ran into

The massive block of NPCs are causing the performance issues and we didn’t have time to implement dynamic loading and unloading of NPCs based on where the driver is.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to simulate the city of New York on a map and pedestrians on the streets. The pedestrians follow a pathfinding algorithm that only let them cross at intersections.

What we learned

Program-wise, we learned how to generate a mass npc's and how to interact with them.

What's next for Clippy the Driving Assistant

We will implement more safety regulations by giving the simulated car more capabilities. Of course we’ll add the safety rules and regulations to Clippy as well. We also wish to integrate Clippy with vehicle dashboards.
